A gaming blog from Shoreditch

Where arcade cabinets meet dungeon dice.

Long-form reviews, tabletop campaign logs and retro preservation stories — written by players who still queue for the CRT. New drops every Tuesday and Friday.

How a piece gets made

From first playthrough to published deep dive.

  1. Step 01

    Play the full run

No 30-minute verdicts. We finish the campaign, hit the post-game, and log every hour before a word is written.

  2. Step 02

    Research the history

We trace the studio, the ports, the patch notes and the fan mods so the context is as sharp as the opinion.

  3. Step 03

    Draft & peer review

Every draft passes two editors — one genre specialist, one sceptic — before it goes anywhere near the site.

  4. Step 04

    Publish & discuss

We publish, then host it in the members forum and our Shoreditch meetups where readers argue back.

What we publish

Three columns, one obsession with games.

The Tunic review actually made me finish the game. Nobody else clocked how the manual mechanic reframes the whole thing — that's why I renewed.

I run a Thursday table and lift half my encounters straight from the campaign logs. The printable maps alone are worth the six quid.

Came for the emulation ethics piece, stayed for the CRT restoration series. Honest, unhurried writing you can't find on the big sites.

The Shoreditch meetup turned an online subscription into an actual friend group. Best £6 a month I spend on this hobby.

Full access to the review archive, every tabletop campaign log with printable maps, and early entry to our Shoreditch meetups. Membership renews monthly and you can cancel any time from your account page.

Yes. Two deep-dive reviews and one retro preservation feature go out free every month. Membership unlocks the back catalogue, the campaign logs, and the ad-free reading experience across the whole site.

Contributing & events

Can I pitch a piece? +

Absolutely — freelance pitches are open. Send a short outline through the contact form and our editors reply within five working days. We pay a flat commission per accepted piece and cover the game where we can.

Where and when are the meetups? +

We host open evenings at our Redchurch Street space on the first and third Thursday of each month, 6:30pm till late. Members book free; guests are welcome for a £3 door fee that goes toward the arcade restoration fund.

Do you accept review copies from studios? +

We do, and we always disclose them at the top of the piece. A review copy never buys a score — every game is played to completion and judged on the same public rubric as anything we buy ourselves.
